Fit Friday…
I am feeling fit today. Good runs this week and my leg/hip problem is all better! I have even found a few things that I love.
I tried these new bars from Gnu Foods. Each bar contains almost half of your daily fiber value in them. Sometimes it is hard to get all that fiber in…Gnu not only makes it easy, they make it yummy too! The bars are really soft – kinda like a cookie. They come in 5 different flavors. Banana Walnut, Cinnamon Raisin (my personal favorite) , Peanut Butter, Chocolate Brownie, and Orange Cranberry. They are all around 130-140 calories each….but you feel really full after eating them because of the ginormous amount of fiber.
I have been on a quest to find the perfect water bottle. It has to hold enough water and be easy to carry. I also don’t really like sucking my water out of those pop up nozzles. Oh, and my water bottle must be able to be put in the dishwasher – no dishpan hands for me! Aladdin has this new line out called Sustain. I am loving the 24oz Clean & Clever bottle. Not only is it BPA free, it fully meets all of my water bottle standards.
If a water bottle is not your thing, they have a ton of great coffee and tea mugs. Everything in the line is super hip and funky looking. I love the Adesso Stainless Vacuum Bottle. It looks like a piece of art! The top even includes a cute little built in cup – so you look as cute as the container while you are sipping your tea.
They even have these super cute travel mugs for kids. Can you believe it is only $5?? They have an entire line for kids that includes containers for snacks on the go.
Have a fun & fit Friday. Come back next week….I had so much fun with my giveaway this week that I am planning another one!

We are all trying to be a little healthy, right? Do you ever buy granola and eat around the things you don’t like? My husband hates raisins….unfortunately raisins are in just about every kind of granola that you can imagine. Do you ever think you must be eating something really low calorie because it has the name granola on the package, only to find out you would have been better off downing a Big Mac? MixMyGranola will custom make your very own granola mix. You choose what kind of granola base you would like, then choose from a huge assortment of dried fruits, nut, and other special items. The list of ingredient choices goes from the basic (raisins) to the exotic (chia seeds). The cool part is that all of the nutritional information is displayed while you create your mix. You can watch the calories go up as you add things in and have some control over the nutritional outcome of your granola. My granola arrived in this really cool cardboard tube – that means nothing was smushed during mailing. My tube was even signed by the mixer (Andrew). Here is the recipe that I created (I like to call it KatyChomps):
- Low-Fat Granola
- Organic Dried Apples
- Dried Blueberries
- Goji Berries
- Dried Blackberries
- Roasted Almonds
- Pistachios
- Organic Flax Seeds
- Chia Seeds
- Organic Coco Shreds
- and lots of love
My favorite ingredients were the Coco Shreds (they were big giant peices of coconut shreds), the organic dried apples, and the dried blackberries. Every ingredient in my mix was fresh and great tasting. It really was the best granola that I have ever had. Maybe it is because of the wonderful guys at MixMyGranola or maybe I just know exactly what to put in the perfect granola? Even if it is because of my mad granola pairing skills I think I will leave the mixing to the professionals. I wouldn’t even know where to buy goji berries or chia seeds. My container contained 8 servings…and when it was halfway gone I had to hide it from my family. I wanted it all!
Here is the deal. Visit the MixMyGranola website. Pick your base granola and at least 5 add ins that you would like to have in your mix. You can even be really creative and name your granola too! Post your recipe as comment on my blog. On Thursday at 5pm the contest will end and I will use a random number generator to pick one person to receive a gift certificate from MixMyGranola that will allow you to turn your recipe into a reality.

First Facebook, now Twitter. I can’t keep up! I was forced compelled to join Twitter in order to try to win a prize. You know I am all about the prize
Not quite sure what to do with it now. At least I found ClemsonGirl on there…it was nice to see a familiar face. So if you happen to Twitter, look me up. My user name is Katyshops. Duh.
I picked this book up at the Scholastic Warehouse sale this weekend. It is supposed to have your entire house/life organized in a year. It has a major project for each month and then breaks it down into weekly segments. It seems kinda like FlyLady, but a little different. Now I can’t decide if I should start with January or wait a week and jump into March. Has anyone used this book? If so, I would love to know your thoughts. Don’t worry, it won’t hurt my feelings if you say bad things about it….I only paid $5 for it
Have you tried a Grapple yet? Riley has been bugging me for months to buy them at Publix for her. They are nearly $6 for four apples! I found them at Target for only $2.99 for four and brought them home to taste. They are apples that have been infused with concord grape flavor. You can immediately smell the grape when you sniff the apple. Each Grapple is really crisp (I hate mushy apples) and has a slight grape taste along with the traditional apple taste. They are yummy!
I have been listening to a new CD called Yanni Voices. It is a collaboration between Yanni and legendary producer Ric Wake. They discovered 4 new musical voice that are just amazing! I love them all, but Chloe is my favorite. You can listen to the CD or watch the DVD. The thing that I like about Yanni’s music is that it is so calming and enjoyable to listen to. It is also is appealing to many generations…my kids like it, my mom likes it, and I love it! You can also go see it from the comfort of your living room via PBS! Click here to find out when.
If you happen to run into me today don’t judge me by my new perfume. I smell like an old lady with arthritis because I am all lathered up in OxyFlex. My leg has suddenly decided that it wants to fight with my hip. They are not getting along. This leaves me limping and smelling funny. If you get any aches or pains OxyFlex really helps. My mom gave me this tube and I am so glad to have it. The funny thing is that I didn’t injure myself…a few hours after my Saturday run (7.4 miles) the pain just started. I wonder how bad it will hurt after my half-marathon (13.1 miles)?
I am having a little GIVEAWAY tomorrow! That sure cheers me up
And it is a good one!! I’m heading back to the couch to rest my leg….
Fit Friday!
I have 36 days left to train for the ING Georgia Half Marathon. Phew. I found a few fitness goodies for you so that you can feel the burn right along with me.
We have 2 sets of FitDeck exercise playing cards that we keep on our coffee table. These are decks of card that have a different exercise on each of them. We have the basic bodyweight deck and a supplemental dumbbell deck. Each card has the directions and illustrations for one quick set. We like to jump up during commercials and do a few cards. The surprise comes the next morning when you can actually feel the burn from doing them. Maybe it is because they were developed by a former Navy SEAL instructor (think drop and give me 20!)? They really show you how you can fit in a few exercises in no time. We keep them on the table to remind us to get moving.
As my training miles get longer and longer my legs seem to get more and more tired. If I do a long run on Saturday morning my legs feel sluggish all day long. I started wearing Zensah Training & Muscle Recovery Leg Sleeves after each run and wow! My legs felt great! So good, that I started wearing them during my runs. The leg sleeves are super comfortable and actually improve the oxygen blood flow which allows you to train harder and recover faster. They really make a difference in how my legs feel after a nice long run. They also help reduce the risk of shin splints and provide great calf support. Many people recommend them to people traveling via airplane for a long flight. I was really surprised at how comfortable they were – I thought they would be really hot. Not at all. They are made out of this special Zensah fabric that actually has silver in it to help regulate your skin temperature. They would be great for anyone who is on their feet a lot.
Have you heard of the Couch to 5K program? It teaches someone who doesn’t run at all, to run a full 5K (3.1 miles) in only 2 months. Each session is 20-30 minutes long and you do 3 sessions a week. All you need is a pair of shoes and a watch. I have heard so many success stories from people who have followed this program. It is really good for beginners who don’t think they can be a runner. It starts out really slow with lots of walking….and in no time you are running like a pro! My daughter Riley is doing the program right now – it is working great for her, really building her stamina. Why not give it a try?
New at Target
Lucky for me Riley’s soccer field is within walking distance to a Super Target! I was looking around the other day and found the new line by Orla Kiely. I love it! My favorite pieces are the ones with the pears on them….I have always had and affinity to pears. There is a bigger selection at the store. Here are some of my favorites:
For free?

When you go out of town do you take a million different chargers with you? Not anymore! The iGo everywhere universal wall and auto power charger will solve all of your woes. This is what you get in your package:

- Retractable cord – No more tangles!! You just pull out as much cord as you need and it springs back in when you are done.

You can get them for everything including digital cameras and PDA’s. So you simply take out either your wall or auto charger insert the proper tip for the device you want to charge and start juicing your gadget up- thats it. Easy. Genius. Perfect. Did I forget to mention that it also charges 8 times faster than normal chargers? Yeah, it does. This has to be one of the best things that I have seen in a long time. Anything that makes life easier and keeps me from getting frustrated gets my seal of approval. Thanks iGo for making my life a lot easier.
