Memorial Day

Did you know that Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day? Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on May 5th, 1968 as a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation’s service. It seems that the tradition of celebrating Memorial Day has changed over the past. Most American’s feel that Memorial Day is simply a three day weekend that marks the beginning of the summer. When a group of elementary students were asked what Memorial Day means, most of them replied that it was when the pool opens. How can you bring a little more “memorial” into your Barbecue this weekend? The best way to show your Memorial Day spirit is to hang your American flag. This would also be a great weekend to visit cemeteries and memorials. Take time to reflect on those who gave their lives to protect our Country. How about you & your family adopt a military platoon? All you need to do is pledge to send one letter a week and one care package a month to one of our servicemen. Have your kids visit America Supports You to send an email to a soldier. Its quick & easy, but very appreciated. Have a safe Memorial Day!
