Feliz Cinco De Mayo!
Una mas cerveza por favor? Thats my favorite spanish saying! I love mexican food & beer. We are so lucky that this year Cinco de Mayo is on a Saturday.
I always thought that this date was considered the Mexican Independence day. Not the case (that is actually September 16th). Cinco de Mayo (“The Fifth of May” in Spanish) is a national holiday in Mexico which is also widely celebrated in the United States. It commemorates the victory of Mexican forces led by General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguin over the French occupational forces in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862.
Want to get all decorated for the occasion? Oriental Trading Company has everything that you will need. You won’t have to spend very many pesos either.
You gotta have a sombrero! There are so many to choose from!
Of course I will be listening to my favorite Latin artist – Tito Puente! I know…he was Puerto Rican, but his music evokes that wonderful cinco de mayo feel!
What are you doing to celebrate? I will do my part by indulging in a little Tex-Mex tonight! Put on your sombrero and viva la mexica.
