Straight Up now

American Idol has had a lot of press this year. Love it or hate it? I still think Paula Abdul is as cute as a button (and much more sober this year). Lets not talk about Sanjaya, today its all about Paula.

Way back in 1998 Paula was on the scene trying to get our sorry butts up off the couch and into a cardio dance groove. Thanks for the tips Paula!

rain62.gif

Wanna wear Paula’s Innergy bracelet? I guess thats where she gets her innergy (?) from. For only $55.61 you can capture yours too.

rain63.gif

Apparently Paula loves to use Kimberly Sayer’s organic skincare line. These come from across the pond – get them at Lovelula. I have never heard of these…but come on if Paula uses them we all should!

Ms. Abdul treats her dogs as well as she treats the AI contestants. She favors a line by Donald J Pliner. You can get it here.

rain59.gif

How does she keep that sun kissed look? Mystic Tan of course! She endorses it too!

You can catch Paula on QVC peddling her own line of jewelry. She gave this piece to the contestants last year. Very cute & affordable!

rain64.gif

The Danielle & Company boasts that Paula is one of their celebrity shoppers. They make some really nice looking soap.

rain65.gif

Now you have all you need to have a very “Paula” day!

Radio (Earth) Thursday

This week across the country we will all celebrate Earth Day with the official Day being Sunday April 22nd. I decided to celebrate Earth Day the KatyShops way – by shopping of course! Look what I found for you:

  • Green Label - Organic sustainable threads. They make the softest shirts I have ever put on my body! Their Tees are made in the United States with 100% certified organic ring spun cotton and printed with low-impact reactive dyes. What does that mean to you & me? You get an ultra soft, ultra hip shirt that is good for our planet too! You can learn so much about organic products on their site too. They have tons of shirts for both men & women. I love my “mother earth” shirt.

rain57.gif

  • Radius Toothbrush - Not only a great toothbrush design, but good for the environment too! The Source model has a replaceable head and a renewable resource handle. Their packaging is also environmentally designed. So not only do they do good for our planet, they also work good on your teeth! So good that they have a serious celebrity following including Sting, Cher, and and Robert Redford. I love the look of flax handle! They are having a 25% off Spring Sale right now, you can pick one up for around $5. They are also offering $10 off of a $10 order for first time google checkout customers.

rain58.gif

  • Simple Shoes - I love these shoes! Stylish shoes made with sustainable materials. Whats that you ask? This company uses recycled and organic materials to make shoes! This helps keep our planet healthy and our feet looking great! They use products like recycled tires, organic cotton, bamboo, recycled plastic bottles, and cork among others to make their shoes. I’m sure you are thinking that they must look weird…not at all! These are great looking. I get compliments all of the time when I wear my GT Janes.

katy1.jpg

  • OlovesM Handbags - Ultra cool handbags made from unused materials that companies throw away. How clever is that? Bags that make a difference! Many stars are using these eco-friendly bags too – they made a big splash at the Sundance Film Festival this year. The bags come in many colors and feel like a yoga mat.

rain60.gif

  • Beauty Blender - Want to put on your make-up everyday and save the planet? The Beauty Blender make-up sponge is not only a revolutionary way to apply make-up – it will last for 6 months! They have created a special cleanser bottle that keeps your sponge nice and fresh for months on end. Think of how many make-up sponges you throw away each day – not with the beauty blender! Just look at the unique shape of the sponge – I have one and it really does blend your make-up flawlessly!

Free flying

I think I found some cool stuff this week. I know I found some yummy stuff.

Visit SoyJoy.com to sign up for 3 free snack bars. The only catch is that you have to promise to share 2 of them with your friends! They look really good – real fruit mixed with healthy soy! Hmmm, who am I going to share with?

Kashi wants to show you how their cereal will keep you filled all morning long – sign up for a trial box.

I have been intrigued by the commercials for Secret clinical strength. Now I can try it out and see how good it works.

I can’t leave out Winnie! Stop by Purina One for a coupon for a free bag of pet food. I take these with me when I travel – very handy!

Free frozen monkey bread from Bridgford Foods. I have tried this before…tasty! I make the following recipe with the frozen bread dough – it is really easy and ohhhh so good. I use the butterscotch pudding in my monkey bread.

MONKEY BREAD

2 doz. frozen dinner rolls (dough)
3 oz. pkg. pudding mix (instant or regular) butterscotch, butter pecan or vanilla
1/2 c. melted butter
1 c. packed brown sugar
2 tbsp. milk

Scatter the frozen dough in bottom of greased pan (Bundt pan or Angel Food Cake pan). Sprinkle dry pudding mix over the rolls. Melt butter and add brown sugar and milk. Mix well and pour over rolls. Cover and let rise at room temperature overnight. Bake at 350 degrees on bottom rack for 25 minutes. Butter top after removing from oven, invert immediately.

I hope I get a pink Reach Access Daily Flosser! What color do you want?

Awwww, look how cute – free lunchbox love notes that you can print out on your computer. Is there anything that we can’t do on the computer these days?

rain53.gif

Only $4.39 for a pen & post-it combo. Very clever!

rain54.gif

For only $3.99 you can turn your faucet into a drinking fountain. How cool would that be in a kids bathroom?

rain55.gif

How much fun would it be to have your ice shaped like legos? For $7.99 you can build with your ice!

rain56.gif

Look under your couch cushion…I bet you will find enough money to buy something from todays post.

I {heart} sneakers

Anyone who knows me could tell you how much I love athletic shoes. I love them all – comfy ones, colored ones, slip-ons, etc. There is nothing like a great pair of tennis shoes! I found a really cool site that celebrates the sneaker! They even give you some cool lacing ideas. You can also buy some really funky shoe laces to make your sneaks look extra special!

rain52.gif

Over at my K Swiss you can customize your own pair. I love doing this! I made mine with pink& green – very preppy! Converse has the same concept. This is so much fun!

Over at Preschoolians you can design your own shoes for your favorite toddler or baby. How cool is that! These shoes are really cute – to bad I don’t have little feet in my house anymore!

rain49.gif

I found the coolest sneakers around at the Lions Den. The pair I like is on sale too – only $45. I think they are awesome!

rain51.gif

Whatever your choice in footwear be sure to keep them “fresh”. I found the Penguin Fresh Twist to keep my sneaks smelling sweet.

inconvenient truth

Have you seen the movie An Inconvenient Truth? I haven’t. An organization called Share the Truth thinks that we would like it so much that they will give us a free DVD. No strings attached, no shipping either. Here is what I have learned about the film:

The film premiered at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival and opened in New York and Los Angeles on May 24, 2006. It is the third-highest-grossing documentary in the United States to date. Both Gore and Paramount Classics, the film’s distributor, have pledged proceeds from the film to further educational campaigns about climate change. The film was released on DVD by Paramount Home Entertainment on November 21, 2006.

Here is what Roger Ebert had to say about the movie:

In 39 years, I have never written these words in a movie review, but here they are: You owe it to yourself to see this film. If you do not, and you have grandchildren, you should explain to them why you decided not to.

Might be worth checking out. I ordered my copy.

Visit Campaign Earth to find out how you can help fight global warming. They have monthly challenges to help you and your family get involved.

Your kids can learn about global warming while participating in a fun interactive web site. Check out Tiki the penguin!

Want to let the world know about global warming? Wear it on a t-shirt.

shirt.jpg

This cool shirt can be spotted on Sienna Miller, Terri Hatcher,& Nick Nolte . They are the creation of the hot new designer Zooey. She also makes pants, mens shirts, etc. A generous portion of the proceeds will be donated to the cause.

How about a bracelet? 100% of the money raised on these will be donated.

bracelet.jpg

I like this one too!

So go ahead, order the movie. Watch it. If you feel moved – support global warming (and shop at the same time). I’m sure you can find lots of things out there to help the cause!

Saturday

I have been in an ice cream mood lately. When I think of ice cream my mind carries me to Cincinnati Ohio where the best ice cream shop in the whole wide world is! I have actually been to Graeters and it really is awesome. Not in the Cincinnati area? No problem…they will send it to you! I love their chocolate chip – the chips are huge!

rain47.gif

Of course sometimes you just can’t wait to have your ice cream sent to you. In that case my favorite flavor is Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby. Chocolate, Peanut Butter, Pretzels, and fudge – yummy!

Have an ice cream cone today!

Its Friday…I’m still in love!

Happy Friday everyone! It seems like it took a really long time to get here this week. I’m ready to grab hold of the weekend and embrace it! It will be busy – Riley has a soccer game, Winnie (my doxie) is going to visit a retirement home, and my neighbor’s son is getting confirmed, and of course Maddie wants to go to the mall (again). I’m not sure where I am going with this but somehow it feels good just to write today.

I’m going to pick out some things for special people in my life – that always feels good too! If I did happen to stumble upon a winning lottery ticket you can all sit back and wait for your presents. I love to give presents!

  • My Dad - For you Dad, this spaghetti fork. I know how much you love spaghetti and meatballs – but did you ever stop to think how much work it is to eat it? Worry no more! The Hog Wild Twirling Spaghetti fork is here!

rain39.gif

  • Maddie - I know how much you (and me) like pink. I also know how much you love cool stuff for your room. For you I found a beautiful pink pigeon light. I just thought it was pretty (like you).

rain40.gif

  • Riley - You get the play & freeze ice cream ball. Because you are a great cook and an awesome soccer player. See, cooking & playing all in one activity! Not to mention that I have had such a weakness for ice cream lately. Can you whip me up some?

rain41.gif

  • Mike - My hubby. Guess what you get? Of course I found you something that no one else will understand – I’m sure you can explain it to me though. The Binary Code Watch. You know, it uses the standard base 2 number system used inside all computers.

rain43.gif

  • Tricia (my friend)- This my friend is for you…I know you don’t like to mess your kitchen up by cooking but I hate it for you that you miss out on all of the yummy cooking smells. Light up the BLT scented votive set and your kitchen can be filled with the smell of bacon (aaahhh).

rain42.gif

  • My Mom - I know how cold you always are. Only the best for you Mom…Fox Legwarmers! How could your legs even think of getting cold with these beauties!

rain44.gif

  • Winnie - You are such a good dog…with all of your community service. You know you deserve this $4,750 bone 3.4 ct diamond ID tag for your collar.

rain45.gif

  • Loretta (my friend) - You are my friend who cooks. No candle for you! I picked you out a nice mixture of spices from Penzeys. They are supposed to have the best ones around. How about one of everything?

rain46.gif

That’s enough fantasy shopping for one day – don’t worry if I missed you, I will be fantasy shopping again soon! Its my favorite type of shopping.

Radio Thursday – Products with a purpose…

Today the theme of Katyshops on KICKS is products with a purpose. These items will solve a problem that you or someone you know may have.

Bootie Pies - Last weekend it was really cold here in Atlanta! I had an appointment scheduled for a pedicure…but brrrrr, did I really want to walk around in flip flops? Bootie Pies solved my problem! These are warm & cozy pedicure boots. What’s that you say?

“These luxurious, pedicure-friendly boots provide the warmth that flip-flops can’t, eliminate salon waiting time, and keep wet toes exposed!”

They look like your typical Ugg boot, until you take a closer look. Right before your polish goes on you zip up your boot, fold the toe flap down, stick your toes out and your warm feet are ready to be polished! Genius. They come in 5 different colors and are available online for $128. I have the Coconut Creme pair and loooove them!

rain34.gif

The Beer Belly - Are you ready to go to your favorite sporting event this Spring but not ready to pay up for their expensive beverages? Enter the Beer Belly! This is a removable “belly” that you wear to your favorite event after you fill it with your favorite beverage! This awesome little invention is only $34.95 – how many $7 drinks do you have to buy before you recoup your cost? They are offering $6 off…by entering the code KICKS when you place your order. Thank you Beer Belly!

rain35.gif

Brugo Coffee Mug - Coffee on the go…its either scalding hot or luke warm. Not any more! Check out the Brugo Mug. This nifty travel mug has a temperature control chamber in it that lets you experience every sip in the perfect temperature zone! Basically, the Brugo mug cools part of the coffee in the special sip chamber while keeping the rest of the coffee waiting for you piping hot! It comes in many colors (of course I have the pink one) and is available online for $19.95. This would make a great gift.

rain36.gif

The Knork – This is a fork with a knife built into it. Why? Have you ever been eating something like pizza or waffles that you need to cut but don’t have a knife? That’s what the knork is for! Its great for parties – no need to carry a fork & a knife around with you, people with limited mobility in one of their arms, kids love them, and it saves on the amount of utensils that you have to wash after dinner each night. They come in either plastic or stainless.

rain37.gif

The Smartwrap - Why are the cords on mp3 players so long? The smartwrap is a cord manager for your earphones. It shortens your cords that are to long and nicely organizes your cords when not in use. They come in tons of cool colors too! They are available here for $7.99 with no shipping cost. I have one for everyone in our family!

rain38.gif

There you have it. Problem solved.
