Maddie’s Picks

Hey! It’s Maddie taking over my mom’s blog for the day! I wanted to do something nice for her since she’s worked so hard this week getting me from place to place, and I have some great products to share :)

  • So I saw these great mints on fredflare.com the other day and thought they looked delish…but they aren’t ordinary mints! These are frosting flavored cupcake mints! So know you can have the taste of cupcakes without all of the extra calories (and you can take these anywhere you go!). Also, fredflare.com often has codes for free shipping, so you can use one of these whenever they have them to get the shipping charge ($7.95) taken off of your order.
  • A ring filled with sprinkles sounds odd, right? Well I ordered one the other day and love it! I have gotten so many compliments on how cute and different it is since I’ve gotten it. If you want one of your own, you can order it online from voodoopickle.com. And now, the ring is 10% off! But be careful-don’t eat the sprinkles! :)

  • I think this is the coolest moustache inspired product ever! I don’t know why, but moustaches are all the rage…well, you don’t have to have one, but they make the best innovative products. And this moustache key holder is actually pretty cool. It’s painted gold and one of a kind!

So, these are just a few of the things I’m raving over right now, and are cute! Plus, they are all new and innovative and will have you swooning over them! Enjoy! :)

Sprout.

Have you heard of Sprout watches?  If you haven’t, you need to pay attention.  They are super cool, super cheap,  eco-friendly and biodegradable.  I love them!  I’m sure you are wondering how a watch can be eco-friendly…I had the same thought.  Let me tell you a little bit about my new Sprout watch.

  • What looks like plastic on the watch is actually corn resin.  There are so many cool colors to choose from.  Who knew corn was so versatile?
  • The strap is made from organic cotton.  You know what that means, right?   It feels good.
  • The watch dial or face is made from bamboo.  Cool.
  • It retails for only $30

This watch is super hip. The face is oversized, the font is really funky, and the colors are great!  They have bunches to choose from.  I was most surprised at how light weight this watch is.  It really feels as light as a feather – I have never seen a watch this light.  That combined with the organic cotton make it super comfy.

You can find them for Men, Women, and kids online or at Sears (only $23 right now), Nordstroms, and K-mart.  Also, a little packet of grass garden seeds comes in the box with each watch.  I’m planting my indoor lawn today!  Just in time for Easter.

I think I’m going to put at Sprout watch in all of my Easter baskets this year.

Sprout gave me a watch to facilitate my review. They didn’t tell me to love it, I just do.

Enjoy!

Happy Weekend.

Everything has been rained out this weekend.  Bleh.  I am spending some time reading my new book.  Why You Say It {The Fascinating Stories Behind Over 600 Everyday Words and Phrases}. This is a much different read than my usual snarky romantic novels.  I like it because I can pick it up and put it down without missing a beat.  Have 3 minutes to wait in the car line?  You can read up on a few phrases.  I have been very entertained learning about phrases that I use everyday.  Why do we say goosebumps, ducks in a row, or up to snuff?  You would be surprised to learn how these words/phrases found their way into our everyday language.

My favorite fact that I learned is that the word Hot Dog actually is named after the dachshund!  Yes, that’s right, because the original frankfurter resembles the shape of my beloved pet – it soon became universally called a hot dog.  I thought it was the other way around.  You know, the dog looks like the hot dog…so people started calling dachshunds hot dogs.  I was happy to learn that it was the other way around!  My dog is so proud to have helped name a popular food :)

This would be a great gift for Father’s Day – my father-in-law loves interesting facts.

Thomas Nelson Publishing provided me with a complimentary copy of this book and 100 % of the opinions given here are my own unless otherwise stated.

Give Away…Zippity Doo’s.

Spring.  Can’t wait.  This is one of my favorite times of year.  But, what I didn’t know is that Spring is the prime season for kids to get head lice.  Ewww!  Is there anything worse than imagining bugs crawling on your child’s head?  Plus the intense de-licing that has to go on in your house.  Really bad. You have to be very careful if your children are sharing hats at baseball (the batters helmet), tumbling on a mat at a gym, or worse…jumping at one of those bounce houses!

Zippity Doo’s is a product that actually PREVENTS head lice.  That’s right, instead of treating it you can prevent it by using the Zippity Doo’s product line.  The products are made for children and are gentle enough to use everyday.  They smell wonderful – why wouldn’t they with ingredients like rosemary, lavender, sage & lemongrass. I wish you could smell them, they smell like my favorite spa!   The products not only repel lice, they repel other bugs as well.  I wonder if they work on mosquitoes?

There are 5 products in the line.  Shampoo, Conditioner, Styling Gel, Shield Spray (which can even be used on other areas like couches & sleeping bags), and Leave-in Detangler.  Zippity Doo’s and BSM Media have given me a set of the entire line to give away to one of you!  That’s right…one of each product in the line!  We all know someone or have personally been infested with head lice.  To enter to win tell me if you have had lice take over your house or head (or your child’s head).  I would love to know how many this has happened to.  I will randomly pick a number on Sunday (March 14th) as our winner.

These products were supplied to me by Zippity Doo’s via BSM Media, as are the products for the giveaway.  I have expressed my opinion and have not been paid to give you my thoughts.

If you can’t beat them…

…join them!  I was just talking to a friend of mine the other day.  I was telling her how I don’t think my kids do enough chores around the house.  Usually it just seems easier to do it myself.  Especially if they are at school late or on the computer doing homework.  I guess you could say I let them be lazy because I am to lazy to give them chores everyday.  I found a new site called My Job Chart.  It is an electronic chore chart.  And lets face it…kids are so into everything electronic these days – iPods, iTouch, computers, cell phones, DSD…and on & on.  You simply type in your chore list for each child.  They log on and to see what their job list is.  They earn points for their completed chores that are redeemed for rewards that you set up.    How cool is that?  It also let you know electronically when the chore is completed.  I love it because when I see the need for a chore to be done (like a sink full of dirty dishes) I don’t have to go find my kids and interrupt what they are doing (hopefully homework). I think kids are so computer savvy, that this is just the high tech method we needed to keep up with our techie kids.   I mean face it, we are all busy…including our kids.  This still lets them be responsible for their chores without my constant nagging.  This service is completely free to use – so why not give it a try?  I am.

Here is how they sum up the program:

My Job Chart is a free online chore chart for kids.  It allows parents to determine what chores are assigned to their children.  As kids do these chores they earn points.   These points accumulate and are then used to redeem rewards in the child’s own personalized reward store.  Through patent pending technology MJC sends either a text or email to parents each time jobs are completed or rewards are redeemed.
